Examples of Motifs (Top to Bottom) 3, 1 and 2

Sunday 30 January 2011

28/01/11 Initial Mbira Experimental.

After auditioning all 3 takes, I chose the 3rd take with dampened shakers. This was purely due to there being a purer sound to be able to work with than the takes with the shakers free.  Out of the 2 takes with shakers, the first with amplifier will be the one I use for it's fuller sound.
A small amount of EQ and FX (delay, reverb) were used for trial. Choice sections repeated.

Jodie Saunders - Mbira - Demo 1

Initial thoughts on how to use Jodie's material? Use some words Jodie spoke of when outlaying use. Trancey was mentioned. Envisage formant drones. Question quantising. Maybe other sound echos of.
Interweave with take 1? Native Instruments The Mouth & The Finger?

27/01/11 Mbira Recording - Jodie Saunders

Jodie kindly brought her Mbira into University together with it's amplifier. Recording took place in Scott 108's sound isolation booth.  Close Mic'd Neumann U87 and Audio Technica 897 captured the performance. 3 takes taken, 1x with amp, 1x without amp and 1x without amp deadened Mbira shakers. I also recorded my asked questions, and Jodie's answers.

5-13/01/11

Sent each volunteer the following Musicians guideline Sheet together with all 3 score sheets.

5/01/11 Volunteer and Motif progression

I received 7 volunteers who wish to be involved with my project.  Some have expressed that they are currently under deadline pressure at the moment so will need a little time before they can help.
I have also produced the 3 Motifs (Displayed at the top) each written in score and provided in all major key signatures 'Ab' to 'G'

30/12/10 Sent invitation to Musicians.

An email was sent to all students studying in BA Music, BEd Music and PGCE Music. I am hoping to assemble a target of between 5 and 10 musicians.

Trial Motif Score

Producing this trial motif score allowed me to consider what aspects I felt needed developing. I concluded that this motif was too short and that additional material would aid both performers and  composition.
